Baptist Health Lexington offers a series of free educational modules designed to teach health-related topics to school-aged children pre-K through eighth grade.
Each module in our "Education in a Box" series has lesson plans packed with fun and informative activities and can fulfill practical living concepts from state content guidelines. We currently offer five different modules:
Pre-K to Grade 1
Our "Hospital in a Trunk" is available for loan to help children understand what it's like to be a little patient in a big hospital. We've included videos, real hospital gowns, masks, stethoscopes, x-rays and other medical supplies for hands-on fun.
My Healthy Body
Grades 2 & 3
Help students start on a path to lifelong wellness with a "mini" anatomy lesson, nutrition information, stress reduction tips and exercise promotion activities. Lessons utilize small group research and whole class activities with models, charts, games and videos.
The Germ Box
Grades 4 & 5
Students this age have heard about the importance of good handwashing, but there's nothing like actually seeing "germs" to bring the message home. A black light box illuminates grime on children's hands when used with a special lotion. Children also culture agar plates from "dirty" sources around the school and watch organisms grow.
Safe Kids Fayette County Coalition Safety Trunk
Baptist Health Lexington administers this educational trunk for Fayette County Safe Kids Coalition. Students may play Fire Safety Jeopardy and Traffic Safety Bingo to learn the importance of safety belt use, fire exit drills, bike helmet usage and other life-saving safety practices.
Tobacco Prevention Trunk
Helps children learn about tobacco hazards and the health impact of tobacco in the hope of encouraging healthy behaviors toward the use of all tobacco products. DVD games, charts, posters, pamphlets and activity sheets are included to help students learn about addiction, second-hand smoke and the influence of big tobacco companies' advertisements on the youth culture.
