Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)



Baptist Health Lexington employees only

Summary

This course is designed with the intent to provide a consistent standardized knowledge-base and approach among nurses rendering trauma care. It is intended to enhance cognitive skills, to sharpen technical skills, and to provide a foundation for future learning. The ultimate purpose is to improve the level of nursing care provided in emergency settings. The TNCC provider is designed to provide core-level trauma knowledge and psychomotor skills associated with the delivery of professional nursing care to the trauma patient. Content is presented through lectures and two psychomotor skill stations. The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Trauma Nursing Core Course may be officially attended only by registered nurses. Other healthcare providers may audit this course on a space-available basis, however, continuing education credits and verification of successful course completion will not be awarded.

Objectives
  After this course the participant can expect to be able to:

  • identify methods utilized by emergency nurses for combating trauma.
  • review epidemiology and mechanism of injury.
  • prioritize nursing assessment and interventions for trauma patients.
  • plan appropriate interventions for a trauma patient in crisis.
  • demonstrate primary and secondary assessment of the trauma patient.

Emergency Department RNs, EMT-Ps (verification for RNs only) at Baptist Health Lexington.

Prerequisites
Pre-registration is required.

 

Manual

ER employees: Manual will be sent to your department 4-6 weeks prior to class from course coordinator.

Other employees: Obtain manual in Baptist Health Lexington library 4-6 weeks prior to class.

 

Registration
Registration deadline is two months prior to day one.

Confirmation Letter will be sent to your Baptist Health Lexington e-mail address (do NOT delete until after you have attended). Your Confirmation Letter is required to for entry to day one of class. 

If this course is not required for your area there will be a $50.00 charge to the employee utilizing your E-Voucher at completion of this class.

Limited availability if this course is not Baptist Health Lexington job-specific for your department. Baptist Health Lexington Employees only.

Fee
The employee will be charged $80.00 utilizing their E-Voucher:

  • if cancellation is 4 weeks or less from Day 1;
  • if a 'no show'; OR
  • missing either Day 1 or Day 2.

If this class is not required (see Certification Requirements...) there will be a $50.00 charge utilizing your E-Voucher.
