RTS Bereavement Training in Perinatal Death (2-day)



Deadline for Registration: August 1, 2014

Summary: This 2-day course provides the training, information, and skills that professionals will need when caring for families who have experienced the death of a baby during pregnancy, at birth, or shortly thereafter.
Target Audience: Nurses especially in Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby, NICU, OP Surgery, OB/GYN clinics, ER, ultrasonographers, clergy, physicians, social workers, funeral directors, and nurse midwives.
Prerequisites: Pre-registration is required.
Objectives:

At the conclusion of Day 1 training, the participant should be able to:

  • list 3 examples of honoring relationship between parent & child.
  • describe 2 examples of how caregivers can use ritual when a baby dies.
  • describe elements of a follow-up phone call.
  • identify strategies to incorporate RTS standards for bereavement care into clinical practice.
  • list 3 self-care strategies for caregivers.

 

At the conclusion of Day 2 training, the participant should be able to:

  • discuss the role of interdisciplinary teams in caring for bereaved parents & families.
  • list 3 theoretical frameworks that promote understanding of perinatal death.
  • describe how to offer options within the context of relationship-based care.
  • discuss the role of keepsakes for a family's grief.
  • list 2 spiritual tasks.
