Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Baptist Health Lexington staff who have taken ACLS Certification one (1) time are required to complete Heart Code [click ACLS Recertification (Heart Code) for instructions].

Walk-ins will not be admitted.


This course will utilize the new ACLS Guidelines from the American Heart Association (AHA).  There have been a number of changes to the material. 

The AHA now requires the ACLS pre-test to be completed and turned in during first day of registration. 

Obtain an ACLS manual from the BHL library and study/review prior to coming to this course. You must complete/print the ACLS pre-test (Pre-Course Self-Assessment) and bring with you during the registration period. This information is located on page ii of the ACLS manual.

Anyone NOT completing/turning in the pre-test prior to class will NOT be able to attend that ACLS course.

The ACLS manual MUST be returned in good condition at the end of the second day to avoid a $25 payroll deduction as authorized by your class e-voucher. 

The expectations for successful completion of this course and a receipt of an ACLS card are successful:

  • completion of the written exam.
  • completion of the skills station component on Day 2.
  • demonstration of BLS skills.

If this class is NOT REQUIRED (job-specific at Baptist Health Lexington) there will be a $25.00 charge (click link below).  You must bring your Confirmation Letter and pre-test for admittance to this class.


  After this presentation the participant can expect to be able to:

  • demonstrate satisfactory one-person adult CPR and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  • demonstrate knowledge of basic and advanced airway adjuncts.
  • demonstrate satisfactory use of conventional defibrillator/monitors.
  • recognize the most common cardiac arrest dysrhythmias and determine appropriate treatment based on patient condition.
  • manage the first 10 minutes of an arrest due to ventricular fibrillation.
  • continue management of patient post-arrest (ROSC).


Target Audience:
RN, LPN, & Paramedic employees working with critical care patients at Baptist Health Lexington.


  • Pre-Registration (see below) is required .
  • Confirmation Letters will be sent to your Baptist Health Lexington e-mail address. Confirmation Letter is required for admittance to day-one of class.
  • Current BLS card
  • Basic dysrhythmia interpretation class

Obtain manual in your department/unit or Baptist Health Lexington library (call ext. 6297 to check availability). If manuals are not returned with 10 days of completion there will be a $40.00 charge utilizing your Class Enrollment Form.

Successful Completion:

Achieved by 84% or better on written exam and performance of skills in simulated scenarios.

$75.00 will be payroll deducted if:

  • cancellation is 4 weeks or less (all cancellations MUST be in writing); OR
  • missing either Day 1 or Day 2; OR
  • No Call/No Show for this class.

This class as with most classes are free to Baptist Health Lexington employees. There will be a $75.00 charge if you meet any of the above stipulations. 

Must have at least 15 registrants in order to have any ACLS class.

If available - advanced payment is required.  If a class is required for a BHL employee you may be asked to give up your place from this class.
-Baptist Healthcare System employees receive 50% discount for most CE classes and symposiums - manuals not included. (Each CE hour = $10.00)
-BPSC Personnel: 50% discount - manuals not included. (Each CE hour = $10.00)

This class begins at 8:00 a.m. Please be aware of your time and be prompt. Certificate will not be given if you miss 15 minutes or more of any CE class/course.  Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
