Nursing Governance Model
A shared governance/empowerment infrastructure has been in place at Baptist Health Lexington since 1996. Through the Team-Based Model, professional nurses are active participants coming together in an organized fashion on both a unit and a system level to determine policies impacting their patients and practice environment.
The purpose of shared governance is to support and enhance the quality and cost effectiveness of potential care delivery by empowering staff members to meet the needs of the customer.
The shared governance structure includes the Nursing Leadership Council, which provides both leadership and governance for nursing, in collaboration with the nurse executive. The group functions as the central point for the communication of nursing activities of the pathways and is accountable for provision of input from the staff nurse for decisions that affect nursing practice.
