Baptist Heart Institute Changes Name to Reflect Broader Focus
The Baptist Heart Institute at Central Baptist Hospital has changed its name to the Baptist Heart and Vascular Institute to reflect its broadened dual emphasis on cardiac and vascular disease.
Vascular disease can be defined as hardening of the arteries, which is associated with heart disease. A build-up of damaging plaque in blood vessels in other parts of the body can cause a variety of life or limb-threatening illnesses: strokes, renal failure, gangrene and abdominal aortic aneurysms - one of the most common causes of death in people over 60. Vascular disease also encompasses a variety of painful and disabling disorders that affect circulation in any part of the body.
The institute, located in Building E on the Central Baptist campus, offers a complete range of services, including prevention, research, education and rehabilitation. A team of experienced, renowned cardiac specialists practices at the Baptist Heart and Vascular Institute, which has been one of the area’s busiest and most progressive centers since its inception.
The Baptist Heart and Vascular Institute’s cutting edge technology and facilities include:
dedicated open heart surgery suites;
eight digital cardiac cath labs;
35 private postcath observation rooms;
a dedicated open heart ICU;
an open heart telemetry unit with all private rooms;
a noninvasive cardiac diagnostic center; and
a progressive cardiac rehabilitation center
an extensive patient education program including "Women’s Health Central" which offers free cardiac risk assessments.
"We are committed to providing the best care, research and technology for those who seek our expertise for quality cardiac care," said William G. Sisson, President and CEO of Central Baptist Hospital.
