Central Baptist Hospital's lactation consultants are highly trained registered nurses who support women who want to breastfeed by teaching them how to make breastfeeding easy, convenient and enjoyable.

Healthcare professionals know that human milk is the ideal food for human infants - and that makes breastfeeding the best choice for mothers and their babies. Breastfeeding helps babies bond with their mothers and produces healthier babies with fewer respiratory and gastrointestinal problems.

Breastfeeding is a learned art, not a reflex. During the breastfeeding experience, mothers often have questions or concerns. Most difficulties women encounter are the result of misinformation and lack of knowledge.

The lactation consultants at Central Baptist Hospital have joined a worldwide initiative to create a baby-friendly environment by supporting mothers in their desire to breastfeed. The center provides knowledge and support to both prenatal and postpartum women.

Our certified lactation consultants help prepare pregnant women for the breastfeeding experience through the Art of Breastfeeding Class. During the postpartum hospital stay, they offer one-on-one support and counseling as well as informative literature. Consultation services also are available for moms who have already gone home. 

Our lactation consultants are also available to mothers of newborns who are being cared for in our neonatal intensive care unit. Electric breast pumps are available.
