Diagnostic Mammography

Diagnostic mammograms are performed with the breast radiologist present for the exam to evaluate an area of concern found on your screening mammogram or an area that you or your doctor feels may be a lump. At the recommendation of the radiologist or your referring physician, the diagnostic mammogram may then be followed by an ultrasound or a biopsy.

On the day of your mammogram, remember:

  • Bring all outside film/ultrasounds with you.
  • Wear a two-piece outfit, so you can stay dressed from the waist down during your exam.
  • Don't use any powders or underarm deodorants because they can interfere with your results.
  • Arrive at the Breast Imaging Services Center at least 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment.
