Basic Dysrhythmia Interpretation
 

This two-day program is designed to prepare the novice in developing skill in interpretation of basic dysrhythmias. It will also include a brief discussion of appropriate emergency interventions for specific dysrhythmias.

Target Audience RNs, LPNs, & other healthcare providers with responsibility for cardiac monitoring and have a basic knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.

Objectives

After this course the participant can expect to be able to:

  1. briefly discuss the anatomy and physiology of the heart.
  2. briefly discuss principles of electrophysiology as they apply to the cardiac conduction system.
  3. identify conduction of the electrical impulse through cardiac conduction system and the relation to the monitored waveform.
  4. discuss monitoring procedure and lead placement.
  5. interpret basic dysrhythmias: sinus, atrial, junctional, AV block, and ventricular using a systematic approach.
  6. describe the potential physiologic effects of basic dysrhythmias.
  7. identify standard of care for emergency treatment of cardiac dysrhythmias.
  8. identify pacemaker function from a rhythm strip.
