CREST: Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy vs Stenting Trial
Description of the clinical trial: CREST physicians want to know a better way to prevent strokes in people who have narrowing in their artery. This clinical trial will compare carotid endarterectomy, a common operation to prevent stroke, to a study procedure called carotid stenting.

Carotid Revascularization: Endarterectomy vs. Angioplasty and Stent Trial
Description of the trial: The purpose of this research study is to compare the effectiveness and safety of a stent (a small, hollow metal mesh tube) place in the carotid artery with surgery (endarterectomy) as a treatment for the narrowing of the carotid artery that can result in a stroke of stroke-like symptoms (Transient Ischemic Attack).
Population: Patients with a narrowing in the carotid artery.
Principal Investigator: William Brooks, M.D.
Sub Investigator: Michael Jones, M.D.
