PEN
At Central Baptist Hospital, we believe that support of our area nursing schools and their students is critical to the future of healthcare. Central Baptist holds students in high esteem and is dedicated to providing optimal clinical experiences. To that end, in 2001, we launched the innovative Partnership for Education in Nursing (PEN) program. Designed to nurture stronger relationships with students and area schools of nursing, the PEN program encompasses student leadership awards, educational assistance, preceptorships, a skills lab with a full-time educator, summer clinical educational experiences, employment opportunities and free continuing education opportunities for students currently enrolled in nursing programs.
SPICEE - Summer Partnership Integrated Clinical Experiences & Education
Central Baptist and Eastern Kentucky University collaboratively developed a structured experience called the “SPICEE” program. The goal of the program is to provide nursing students an opportunity to work side-by-side with an experienced nurse preceptor for 10 weeks in the summer and receive both a salary and course credit. The program is designed to provide the student a clinical experience in an area of interest for the student. This program is open to students from Lexington Community College, the University of Kentucky and Midway College.
LINE - Leadership Initiatives in Nursing Education
This synthesis experience at Central Baptist Hospital was created to augment the leadership development of baccalaureate prepared nursing students at the undergraduate level. This select opportunity for preceptor experiences is available for senior students in the University of Kentucky baccalaureate nursing program. In addition to the clinical experiences, this preceptorship focuses on developing the types of leadership competencies essential for the beginning nurse leader, including the concept and clinical application of emotional intelligence. The BSN student in the LINE program is paired with an experienced RN preceptor as a care partner during this experience.
