The CyberKnife System is FDA approved for full body radiosurgery making it possible for the CyberKnife Treatment Center at Central Baptist Hospital to offer treatment alternatives to many patients who:

• are otherwise diagnosed as inoperable
• want or need an alternative to traditional open surgery
• have received the maximum allowable dose of radiation
• do not want to undergo a treatment using a stereotactic frame
• do not want an additional operation to remove a recurrent or residual tumor

During the Treatment:

The tumor receives a cumulative dose of radiation high enough to control or kill the tumor cells while minimizing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

The robot arm compensates for even slight patient movements during treatment by monitoring and tracking the patient's position continually during the process, allowing the radiation beams to be delivered with extreme accuracy.

With this new system, doctors can precisely direct up to 1,200 radiation beams of different sizes to conform to any tumor shape.  In fact, the CyberKnife is so precise, higher doses of radiation can be administered and patients can be re-irradiated if needed.
