As part of our comprehensive range of services, Baptist Health Breast Imaging offers bone densitometry, which can be used to detect the decrease in bone mass associated with osteoporosis.
The most common type of bone disease, osteoporosis, occurs when the body fails to form enough new bone, or when too much old bone is resorbed by the body, or both. An estimated 12 million Americans have osteoporosis, and another 34 million have low bone mass. As many as half of all women over the age of 50 in the United States are likely to suffer an osteoporosis-related fracture (1.5 million fractures annually).
When detected, osteoporosis can be treated and even stopped in its tracks. A bone density test, along with a physical examination, can provide a definitive diagnosis of osteoporosis to assist in a treatment plan. Bone density exams are quick and painless for the patient.
Bone densitometry is available at 3084 Lakecrest Circle, Suite 150, in the Beaumont area. To schedule an appointment, call 859-260-6050 or 877-360-6050. You will need an order from your physician for this exam.
