Speech & Language Pathology
Our speech and language pathology services at Baptist Health Lexington are available on an inpatient or outpatient basis. Speech-language pathologists work with people who have communication or swallowing disorders. Speech and language disorders limit a person's ability to communicate with others.
People of all ages can experience difficulty with communication. Children may be delayed in the development of skills needed to talk, or may not be able to pronounce words well enough to be understood. These problems can interfere with a child's performance in school or his or her ability to get along with other children.
Children or adults may stutter or have voice disorders. Baptist Health Lexington has a special computer-aided program for the treatment of voice and stuttering disorders. The department also specializes in helping laryngectomies talk again after losing their voice box to cancer. The speech-language pathologist works closely with the patient and their family to help them achieve their maximum level of independence and rehabilitation possible.
